Post-Construction Cleaning: What Builders Leave Behind

· 5 min read · By the Master Cleaning Wizards team

Newly built open-concept kitchen and living area after a post-construction clean

Your remodel is done, but the dust isn't. Here's why construction dust is so stubborn and what a true post-construction clean involves.

New construction and remodels are booming across Forsyth and Cherokee counties. If you've just finished a renovation or closed on a new build in Cumming, Canton or Woodstock, you've probably noticed something: even after the builder's clean, a fine layer of dust keeps showing up.

Why construction dust is different

Drywall sanding, sawing and grout work produce particles far finer than household dust. They hang in the air for hours, settle into cabinet interiors and HVAC ducts, and keep resettling for days. A single pass rarely gets it all.

Builder's clean vs. post-construction clean

Most builders' cleans focus on debris: sweeping up, removing packaging and a quick wipe-down. A true post-construction clean goes much further:

  • Fine dust removed from every surface, top to bottom, often in multiple passes
  • Sticker, label and adhesive residue removed from windows, fixtures and appliances
  • Paint flecks and overspray carefully lifted from glass and hardware
  • Cabinets and drawers cleaned inside and out
  • Window frames, tracks and sills detailed
  • Floors cleaned with the right method for each new surface

When to schedule it

Book your post-construction clean after all trades are finished, including touch-up painting, but before furniture moves in. Empty rooms let us reach every surface and finish faster.
